Julieanne Kost

Senior digital-imaging evangelist, Adobe

If teaching others to express themselves is a measure of creativity, then Julieanne Kost is off the charts. Part teacher, part marketer, she is Photoshop guru to legions of followers. Whether helping pros with the digital equivalent of darkroom techniques or showing amateurs an application that turns snap-shots into works of art, Kost moves people to embrace the software, not fear it. (Creative Suite, which includes Photoshop, earned Adobe $2 billion in 2008.) And she instructs by example; her book, Window Seat, is a collection of photos taken from airplane windows. A simple concept -- and a fine lesson for her students: "I tell them what defines good photography is a point of view. The software can refine it, but never replaces it." -- by Mark Borden

Julieanne Kost

I have been a fan of Julieanne for several years, since the first time I heard her speak. She is an inspiration and a name I search out when considering design conferences. I could not be more pleased that she's on this list.

She is the best. No one is more engaging a speaker about Photoshop and the tools of digital photography!

This lady seems to be brilliant just from the small article I have read on her. Her work is amazing.

Julieanne is the Best of the Best in her field.

Quotes

"I do feel compelled to finish my chores before I will "reward" myself with time to work on my art. I believe this is due to my being very conscious of my environment. If I am not at peace with my surroundings, then I have a difficult time concentrating on the task at hand. If I can't let go of these things and keep being distracted by them and they end up ruining my time that I work. The mindless chores allow me to transition to this better place where I can then concentrate.”-An Interview with Julieanne Kost, Imaging Resource
